Melbourne Stars captain Glenn Maxwell injured his forearm muscle while batting against the Brisbane Heat on Thursday and is expected to miss the upcoming game against the Perth Scorchers.

The Melbourne Stars have announced that they will be without their captain Glenn Maxwell for the second game of the ongoing Big Bash League. The Australian star had to take a break due to a muscle injury.

Maxwell injured his forearm while batting against Brisbane Heat on the opening night of the competition, where he scored 23 from 14 balls as the Stars were soundly beaten by 103 runs.

The World Cup winner played in the BBL opening game between Melbourne Stars and Brisbane Heat in Brisbane on Thursday (December 6th). Glenn Maxwell led the Melbourne-based team but could not lead them to victory as they suffered a crushing defeat by 103 runs.

Asked to bat first, the Heat scored 214 for 3 in their allotted 20 overs, thanks to Colin Munro's brilliant knock of 99 runs not out. Munro looked set to complete a well-deserved century but was denied the chance in the final over when his teammate Max Bryant played the last three balls and hit them all for four. With the ball, Glenn Maxwell took 1 wicket, although he ended up conceding 44 runs in 3 overs.

In response, the Stars lost both openers for just six runs before Glenn Maxwell threatened to turn the game on its head. However, he couldn't last long and was eliminated after scoring 23 runs in just 14 balls. The Stars were ultimately down for just 111 runs.

And while the star all-rounder would have been hoping to lead his team to victory in their second game against the Perth Scorchers, he will have to watch the proceedings from the sidelines after suffering a forearm muscle injury. He sustained the injury while batting and will begin rehabilitation immediately.

“Glenn Maxwell will be ruled out against Perth Scorchers on Wednesday after injuring his forearm. We will provide further updates as his recovery progresses,” the stars said in a statement.
