Afghanistan won the first ODI against Bangladesh by 17 runs in DLS method on Wednesday (5 July) at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chittagong. A clinical display from every department of Afghanistan lineup helped them clinch the victory. 

Earlier the day, Afghanistan won the toss and opted to bowl first. After being put into bat first, the Afghan pacers were running riot. Bangladeshi openers were made hard for every runs and the opening stand added only 30 before Fazalhaq Farooqi nipped out the Bangladeshi skipper Tamim Iqbal for 13 off 21. The other opener Litton Das gave some momentum to the innings as he took 17 runs from Saleem Safi's 11th over. But he couldn’t prolong his innings as he gifted his wicket away to Mujeeb for a 35 ball 26. The inform Nazmul Shanto too was insipid on the occasion as he made only 12 off 16 balls.
Shakib Al Hasan consumed too many balls and got himself under immense pressure and looked scratchy in his stay. The dot ball pressure was building up on him and that led to his downfall. He went to score just 15 off playing 38 deliveries. The middle order and the lower order couldn’t do much as the Afghani bowlers kept chipping away with wickets. There were rain irruptions which led to the game being reduced to 43 overs per side. It was Towhid Hridoy who looked comfortable in the Bangladeshi batting lineup and he scored a fine 51 off 69 deliveries which helped Bangladesh post a per total of 169 from reduced 43 overs.
Fazalhaq Farooqi was the pick of the bowlers for Afghanistan as he picked up 3 wickets conceding only 24 from his 8.4 overs. Rashid Khan and Mujeeb both picked 2 wickets apiece. Nabi and Azmatullah too were among the wickets with their solitary scalp.
Chasing 164, Afghanistan openers gave them to a fine start. They added 54 runs before Shakib scalped Rahmatullah Gurbaz for 22 off 45. Taskin Ahmed then picked up the wicket of Rahmat and Afghanistan were marginalized to 70-2. But Ibrahim Zadran stood tall for Afghanistan and made 41* off 58 before rain irruption. Afghanistan were ahead and they won by 17 runs by DLS method.
