The International Cricket Council (ICC) has revealed the April 2023 recipients of the ICC Player of the Month honors. After producing match-winning performances for their respective countries in the One-Day International (ODI) format, Fakhar Zaman of Pakistan and Naruemol Chaiwai of Thailand have been named the ICC Men's and Women's Players of the Month, respectively.

Fakhar triumphed over formidable opponents, including Sri Lanka's spin genius Prabath Jayasuriya and New Zealand batter, Mark Chapman.

With two important match-winning hundreds in Pakistan's ODI series win against touring New Zealand, Fakhar becomes the first Pakistan player to win the monthly distinction since Sidra Ameen in November 2022.

Fakhar led his team to victory in the ODIs that followed a very quiet T20I series. The batsman scored 117 runs off of 114 balls to lead his team to a five-wicket victory in their first encounter, a chase of 289, in Rawalpindi. He and Imam-ul-Haq put on an opening stand of 124 runs, a masterful show of control and counter-attacking play.

Fakhar once again shone brightly in an exceptional exhibition of hitting and partnership building in the second ODI at the same location, where a massive goal of 337 had been set. His unforgettable unbeaten 180 off 144 balls was a major factor in Pakistan achieving their highest successful ODI chase to that point.

"It is truly an honour for me to be named ICC Player of the Month for April. This month has been one of the highlights of my career and it was an amazing feeling to play in front of my own people in Lahore, Rawalpindi and Karachi.

"I really enjoyed scoring back-to-back centuries in Rawalpindi, but my favourite was the 180 not out in the second match. I hope to continue the momentum leading into the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, and make Pakistan cricket fans happy and proud with my performances," Fakhar said.
