England thumped New Zealand by a massive margin of 95 runs on Saturday (2nd September) at Emirates Old Trafford, Manchester. Jonny Bairstow's swashbuckling 86* off 60, aided by Harry Brook's 67 off 26 helped England post a mammoth total of 198-4 on the board.

Earlier the day, England won the toss and chose to bat first. They batted with fluency and the kiwi pacers were left searching answers as England nearly breached 200 mark barrier. The partnership between Brook and Bairstow was worth of 131. Both of them were at their best of ball hitting. Brook scored a quick-fire 67 off just 36 balls, whereas Jonny Bairstow made an unbeaten 86 oft only 60 balls. England then posted and indomitable total of 198-4 from alloted 20 overs.

In reply of 199, New Zealand were never in the chase. They lost Allen and Conway in first two overs and despite of a bit of a recovery, they were already on a dangerous slippery slope and they couldn’t cling on for much longer. Tim Seifert played some delightful shots as he went for scoring 39 off only 31 deliveries. But apart of him, no one stood and New Zealand failed miserably in the chase. They were bundled for a measly 103 runs and ultimately lost the match by 95 runs. Debutant Gus Atkinson was mighty impressive as he picked up 4 wickets conceding only 20 runs.
