Three centuries and a near century innings were manifested at the Riverside Ground on Wednesday, where the big scoring match between England and Australia thumped up for the hosts as they registered an unassailable 4-0 lead in the five match one day international series against the arch rivals. Chasing a victory target of 310 runs, England surpassed the total losing 4 wickets to register a 6 wicket win conclusively. Australia, after deciding to bat first, accumulated 310 runs on the board losing 8 wickets in their 50 overs. A rather miserable Australian batting line up, exhibited earlier in the series was lit up by a pair of tons scored by Aaron Finch and Shaun Marsh. Marsh was more destructive in the one down than opener Aaron Finch; the total of Australia would be bigger had their rest of the batting line up could score a little more flamboyantly. The three top order batsmen of the Australian side scored 264 runs in conjunction while the rest of them added 39. Finch’s hunted exact 100 in 106 balls adorned with 6 fours and 3 sixes. While Travis Head did most of the slaughtering in the power plays’, he was dismissed in the first ball of the twentieth over at the score of 63 off 64. Lately Marsh fired the opposition with a 92 ball 101. He lofted 5 fours along with 4 sixes. David Willey was the most successful of English bowlers; bowling 7 overs, Willey captured 4 wickets conceding 43 runs. If Australian camp was aired with any contentment with an over three hundred score line, it was gunned down by Jason Roy and Johnny Bairstow. English openers continued from where they left at Trent Bridge making the large target rather easy. England scored 76 runs in their first power play with Roy fetching a 36 ball fifty in the innings. At the end of the rampage when England stood on 174 runs in the 24th over, Roy stood out with 101 runs, facing 83 deliveries. His innings was ornamented with 12 fours and 2 shots of over boundaries. It was, in fact, the first wicket Australian bowlers could snatch in the innings. Bairstow remained there, though departed after a short while, in 79 runs. He faced 66 deliveries hitting 10 shots to the boundary. Remaining England batsmen proved themselves enough for touching the victory target. Effective cameo knocks from Alex Hales, Joe Root, Eoin Morgan and Jos Buttler cruised the side to win the match comfortably, leaving them in close vicinity of a first ever 5-0 sweep against Australia.
