The Australian men's team have announced their starting XI for the first T20I against Sri Lanka. Senior pros David Warner and Steve Smith returned to the side after a brief hiatus.

Australia's big guns returned to the team as they announced the starting XI for the opening Twenty20 International (T20I) game against Sri Lanka on Tuesday at Colombo's R.Premadasa Stadium.

Mitchell Marsh, David Warner, Glenn Maxwell and Steve Smith had all missed recent T20I games at home against Sri Lanka in February and the one-off T20I game against Pakistan in Lahore in April, but returned to the starting XI for the first T20I. Discussing team composition, Australia's limited overs skipper Aaron Finch said there was a temptation to play two spinners but as it had rained for the past few days they opted to go with three fast bowlers.

This will give the team a major boost as Warner was in stunning form at the recent 2022 IPL for the Delhi Capitals where he amassed 432 runs in 12 games with a 48 average. Smith most recently played an international game on the Test Tour to Pakistan and did not take part in the limited-overs series. This is a good opportunity to find the top names from the squad that played in last year's T20 World Cup where Australia clinched the elusive title.

The first of the three-game T20I series will be played on June 7 at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Conditions are expected to suit the pacesetters and the Aussies entered the race with 3 frontline sailors.

Mitchell Starc, Kane Richardson and Josh Hazlewood will lead the attack while Ashton Agar will be the lone spinner in the absence of Adam Zampa, who is home for the birth of his first child.

The line-up is quite similar to that which won the T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates last year, missing only Zampa and Pat Cummins, who is currently taking a break from the circuit.

Australia has a balanced lineup with three all-rounders - Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Marsh and Marcus Stoinis. Each of them can contribute with the ball and are extremely destructive with bat in hand.
