Cricket Australia decides WBBL future

According to AAP's sources, domestic players will now earn nearly $10,000 more than they did in the WBBL thanks to the adjustments. Instead of a salary, they will receive additional match money for state games. At least 23 matches will still be shown on Seven as part of the free-to-air lineup.

In order to align the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL) with the men's 10-round tournament, the number of matches will be cut by 16. On Tuesday, Cricket Australia (CA) is likely to unveil the modifications, which will include a return to state-based Twenty20 games to offset the WBBL cutback.

According to AAP's sources, domestic players will now earn nearly $10,000 more than they did in the WBBL thanks to the adjustments. Instead of a salary, they will receive additional match money for state games. At least 23 matches will still be shown on Seven as part of the free-to-air lineup.

For a long time, CA has considered cutting the WBBL in an effort to improve match scheduling and provide more background information.  The women's Twenty20 World Cup in October makes the problem much more pressing next summer.

The league is hoping that by making the modifications, the tournament would be shorter and more enticing to players from other countries. They are also hoping that the changes will reduce the amount of underwhelming midweek matches.

CA considers the implementation of state-based T20 matches to be the optimal solution in achieving equilibrium.  The competition will be exclusive to players from the surrounding area and will represent the initial Twenty20 matchups between state teams since the WBBL's inception in 2014-15.

These encounters will be conducted independently and will not be factored into the 50-over Women's National Cricket League, which is a state-level league.
