Yuzvendra Chahal is on the verge of playing first-class cricket for Kent after signing up for three games in the ongoing County Championships "subject to regulatory approval".
Veteran Indian leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has signed a deal with Kent County Cricket Club to play the remaining three games of the ongoing County Championship. The 33-year-old has been dropped from Team India's squad for the much-anticipated ICC Cricket World Cup at home, to be played from October 5 to November 19.
"It's an exciting challenge for me to play in English county cricket and I'm really looking forward to it," Chahal said in the statement.
Kent are currently second to bottom in the County Champions Division 1 table with ten teams and face relegation to Division 2 next season.
"We're delighted to have secured a spinner of Yuzvendra's quality for the final three league games of the season, with Matt Parkinson only available next year and Hami Qadri recently injured," said Kent's cricket director Paul Downton .
"He's really looking forward to playing in English conditions and will bring a lot of skill and international experience to our squad."
Kent also signed Indian fast bowler Arshdeep Singh earlier this season. The 24-year-old played five games from June to July and recorded 13 wickets in eight bowling innings.
Chahal, who has not always been a regular in first-class cricket, played two games for Haryana, his team in the Indian domestic tournament, in last season's Ranji Trophy, taking three wickets with an average of 92.33. Overall he has 87 wickets from 33 first-class games but is better known for his achievements in white ball cricket where he has 121 wickets from 72 ODIs with an average of 27.13 and 96 wickets from 80 T20Is with a saving rate of 8.19 . He has never played Test cricket.
