Jasprit Bumrah eclipsed the 39 year old record to become the highest wicket taker on debut in a calendar year by any bowler.

With 45 wickets and counting, Bumrah, the 25 year old pacer surpassed his countryman Dilip Doshi who owned the record in 1970 bagging 40 wickets in debut year. Achieving the feat in 1996, Venkatesh Prasad occupy the third place with 37 wicket and Narendra Hirwani took 36 wickets spots the fourth place in the list respectively as Indian bowlers. In all-time list of most Test wicket taking bowlers in the debut year, Bumrah tops above former Australia pacer Terry Alderman (achieved the feat in 1981) and West Indies pace legend Curtly Ambrose (achieved the feat in 1988) who are jointly in the second position with 42 wickets. Bumrah clasped 6 wickets for 33 as Australia skittled through 151 runs in their first innings. He bowled 15.5 overs. He took 3 wickets withing 11 balls just costing a single run. Before that, Jasprit Bumrah claimed fifers both in South Africa and England tour earlier this year, became the first Asian bowlers to take five-for in each of the aforementioned countries in a calendar year.
