Anamul Haque Bijoy returned to the Bangladesh national team after scoring a record number of runs in the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) last year. This year, Bijoy also shined but Naim Sheikh scored more runs than him. Naim was the highest run-scorer and Bijoy was second in the list.
Despite this, Naim has been included to the national team leaving Bijoy. But both Bijoy and Naim contributed equally to Abahani Limited winning the title.
Bijoy is far ahead of Naim in terms of playing experience in the ODI team. So many people have raised such questions after the announcement of the ODI team for the Afghanistan series, whether injustice is being done to Bijoy or not. Selector Abdur Razzak, however, claimed that Bijoy is still in the thinking of the selectors.
"Bijoy played well. He was not selected because of the team combination. No doubt he is playing well, in very good form. However, it is difficult to break the team suddenly. There are many games ahead. Bijoy did not go beyond the calculation. He is still in our thinking,” Razzak said.
Naim got a chance in the ODI team based on performance. He is now in the plan as a 'backup' opener in the ODI team. Razzak reminded that Naim was already under consideration for the ODI team.
He added, “Naim has done well in the Premier League. It's the same with him. As he has performed, let the team benefit if there is a problem. Of course, Premier League performance is taken into account. Naim is a player in our pipeline, not outside.”
