Afghanistan is ahead of Bangladesh in T20 in terms of ranking or statistics. However, BCB president Nazmul Hasan Papon believes that playing aggressive cricket could bring Afghanistan down in the format.
The two-match T20 series between host Bangladesh and visiting Afghanistan will start from March 3 in Mirpur. Earlier, Papon told captain Mahmudullah Riyad,"cricketers should have faith in good performance and victory."
"On paper, they (Afghanistan) can be ahead," he told the media on Tuesday (March 1) night. "But in my heart I believe Bangladesh is a good team. We have no reason of not winning. It must be in every player. The captain was also there. I said every player should think about it and play with courage."
The Tigers have fond memories of beating Australia-New Zealand in Mirpur. However, this was in those two series. Papon wants Bangladesh to bat aggressively against Afghanistan.
His says, "T20 is a game of uncertainty. Whoever does well that day will win. What is most needed here is morale and courage. There is no benefit in being afraid. No defensive thinking can be done. No big deal with who I'm playing with. Won with New Zealand-Australia, still wrong if I think we will win 120-130."
"It's not possible here. Need to score better. We have to play more aggressive cricket."
A new face can be seen in the T20 team duing this series. DPL and BPL opener Munim Shahriar is ahead in that race. Besides, there is no possibility of any change in the team.
Papon stated, "As far as I know, those who were there will be, 2-1 new faces will come (in the XI)."
