Bangladesh lost to Afghanistan by 8 runs (DLS method) in a breathtaking match in St Vincent. In the chase, Bangladesh had a chance but they kept losing wickets regularly while at the other end, Litton Das kept fighting but they lost the match despite his fight.
Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto reveals that they wanted to chase down the score within 12.1 overs which could make the way for the semifinals. However, Bangladesh lost their first 3 wickets within the first 3 overs in the chase and then they tried to win the match.
“First of all, we wanted to win the match. That was the initial plan. After first innings, when we saw 115 on the board, we had a plan that we could win in 12.1 overs. So, that was the plan but as I mentioned the batting group made a lot of poor decision. When we lost 3 wickets early, we thought for the win only,” Shanto said.
However, Shanto praises the bowlers and says that they had a plan to take early wickets but Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran did well. But Bangladesh turned around the things in the middle-overs and restricted Afghanistan to 115 runs.
“I think bowling wise we had a plan that taking early wickets. But Gurbaz and Ibrahim batted really well. But in the middle, we controlled the game. All the bowlers did a great job. The batting group made lot of poor decision that cost us today,” Shanto added.
