Akram Khan, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) cricket operations committee chairman, has confirmed that longer version games will get preference on the tour which will allow fringe members to get a taste of quality cricket. The tour schedule is yet to be finalised. "We had been trying to arrange a series with Sri Lanka in the past four-five months. They have confirmed a November slot to us. If we have space to play, we will tour. Longer version will get priority, so it's a chance for players outside national team to play against a quality side," Akram said on Wednesday. Bangladesh A team's last series was in Sri Lanka, where they drew two unofficial Tests and won three-match List A series 2-1. Mominul Haque (red-ball) and Saif Hassan (white-ball) were the captains on that tour. Earlier in February-March this year, Saif-led Bangladesh Emerging team played Ireland Wolves in one first-class match, five unofficial ODIs and one T20 at home. Bangladesh remained unbeaten (List A series 4-0) in that series. "This [A team doesn’t play enough] is a huge misconception to you [journalists]. Nothing has been going on properly since the pandemic. Let alone the A team," Akram added. "Our A team last played in Sri Lanka in October 2019. The pandemic situation isn’t letting us to work on U-19, Academy, or High Performance Unit. "A team has played 21 series in the last 8-9 years - 8 at home, 13 away. We couldn’t arrange two series for coronavirus. We have played around 120 matches - 45 longer version, 75 limited-overs. "I feel this is enough. You should also know that the A teams participate in th ACC Emerging Asia Cup. That also didn’t happen for pandemic. "We usually field A team against touring sides. But we couldn’t do it against West Indies and Sri Lanka. Otherwise, we could've played more." The BCB has recently approved 'Bangladesh Tiger' as a shadow team which will train throughout the year and play matches home and away.
