Colombo Strikers head coach Simon Helmot said Babar Azam would be a great asset to have as a support mechanism.

Babar Azam's role goes beyond just playing cricket for the Colombo Strikers in the ongoing Lanka Premier League (LPL).

According to Strikers head coach Simon Helmot, Babar's influence spans emotional, mental and technical aspects of the game.

Colombo Strikers bowling coach Chaminda Vaas had said in a previous interview that the Pakistan captain preferred to focus solely on his shot, a decision the team management respected.

With Babar unwilling to lead the Strikers, management chose Dickwella as captain - a move that drew criticism from fans of the stylish batsman.

“He [Babar] cares about people, be it emotional, mental or technical. It's a great asset to have him on the side as a support mechanism," Helmot told.

Forwards captain Niroshan Dickwella also acknowledges the crucial role Babar Azam plays in his captaincy career. Babar's constant advice and support throughout their partnership at the center has been invaluable. Their collaboration also extends to decision-making, with Babar's input contributing significantly to their strategic decisions on the ground.

“I enjoy the captaincy, but it also comes with a lot of responsibility. I have to put a lot of work into it: bat well, keeping wickets and handling pressure.

"I enjoy my responsibilities, especially in the middle with Babar. He helps me throughout the innings and we always make decisions together," Dickwella said.
