The semi-final battle is going to start tomorrow in the World Cup. Only 4 teams remain in the 10-team tournament. In the meantime, one of the teams will win the World Cup title.
The first of the two semi-finals will be played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The second one will be played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. There is a possibility of rain in that match in Kolkata. There is a chance of rain on the day of the match, the day after the match i.e. the reserve day.
Australia and South Africa will face each other in the semi-final in Kolkata on November 16. There is a 50% chance of rain on Thursday, the day of the match. The possibility of rain on the next day i.e. reserve day is more. As a result, the possibility of the entire match being washed out cannot be ruled out.
Now the question is what will happen if the rain interrupts the match? Firstly, no matter how much rain comes in the match, the umpires in charge will try their best to make both teams bat for at least 20 overs. This effort will continue on reserve day as well. If this is successful then team goals and winning team, losing team will be calculated as per Duckworth Lewis Stern (DLS) Method calculation.
However, if the effect of rain is severe and as a result the two teams cannot bat for at least 20 overs, then the match will be abandoned. And the team which was higher in the table of the league stage will go to the final. That is, if the semi-final match between South Africa and Australia is abandoned, South Africa will go to the final due to their lead in the points table. At the end of the league play, South Africa were at number 2, while Australia were at number 3.
But the umpires will try their best to finish the match within the scheduled day. Efforts will be made to reduce the overs and play at least 20 overs for the two teams. But if that is not done then the match will be held on the reserve day. A reserve day was required for the 2019 World Cup semi-final match between India and New Zealand at Old Trafford.
If everything goes well, South Africa and Australia will meet in the second semi-final of the World Cup on November 16 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The game will start at 2:30 pm Bangladesh time.
