Australia fast bowler Josh Hazlewood was forced to leave the field midway during Day 4 of the third Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 Test against India at The Gabba in Brisbane. Hazlewood, who reported discomfort in his calf before the start of play, bowled just one over before being taken off for further medical assessment.

Cricket Australia confirmed that Hazlewood was experiencing "calf awareness" and would undergo scans to determine the severity of the injury. The right-arm seamer, who replaced Mitchell Starc in the attack, bowled the 27th over of the day, conceding five runs, but appeared uncomfortable throughout. Following discussions with captain Pat Cummins, Steve Smith, and the team physio, Hazlewood left the field for treatment.

A Cricket Australia spokesperson stated, "Josh Hazlewood reported calf awareness in this morning's warm-up. He will be taken for scans to assess the injury."

Hazlewood’s latest injury concern is another blow for the Australian team, as the pacer had already missed the previous Test in Adelaide due to a side strain he sustained during the first Test in Perth. With Hazlewood out of action, Cummins was left a bowler short for most of the first session on Day 4, adding further pressure on the Australian bowling attack.

The injury also raises doubts over Hazlewood’s availability for the remainder of the Test at The Gabba. Australia is eyeing a follow-on opportunity against India, but Hazlewood's absence could complicate their plans.
