Both Archer and his IPL franchise came to the decision mutually.
Archer finished as the MVP in 2020 thanks to his 20 wickets in 14 games, with an economy of 6.55, He had also made 113 with the bat in hand.
Archer, who underwent surgery on his middle finger, would be "stepping up" his training intensity after spending time in rehab, said ECB in a press release.
"Archer will now step up his training regime starting next week and will be in full training with Sussex. It is expected that he will return to cricket in the next fortnight if he can continue to bowl and prepare pain-free," the release also added.
It should be noted that Archer has been training with Sussex at Hove this week in a bid to make his way back to fitness.
If the English pacer was to take part in the IPL, he would've had to serve a mandatory eight-day quarantine period. That would result in interrupting Archer's prepration and bowling build-up, something not ideal in his return to competition.
While the ECB has not yet confirmed when exactly will Archer return to playing, it is hoped that he will play a second XI match in the next fortnight to assess his return from injury.
Provided everything goes according to plan, Archer may play mid-May for Sussex in the Championship.
Archer's absence will come as a huge blow for Rajasthan, who are languishing at the bottom of the IPL points table at the moment, having lost three out of their four matches so far. Ben Stokes and Liam Livingstone have also been ruled out of the tournament.
