India has been given a boost by the news that Ajinkya Rahane will be batting in the fourth innings of the ICC World Test Championship final.

On his return to India, veteran batsman Ajinkya Rahane scored 89 runs to help India to 296 runs in the World Test Championship final against Australia. When the entire top order failed to move up, Rahane remained calm, showing plenty of composure and building a very important partnership together with Shardul Thakur that gave India some hope in the middle.

It is worth noting that Australian bowlers hit Rahane hard during his stay in the goal area and the 35-year-old suffered many blows to the body as a result. He injured his finger in the process, but according to the cricketer it won't bother him batting in the second inning.

Rahane, who hasn't been on the Test team for a while, has already proven himself in the midfield team but is striving to be even better. He also added that while the team was aiming for a 320-330 record, he was happy with the way Day 3 ended.

"It was painful but manageable," Rahane told the ICC at the end of a day that ended with 296 runs for Australia, despite Rahane's counterattack of 89.

“I'm really happy with the way I fought. We had a good day today, partnering with (Ravindra) Jadeja and I and then Shardul (Thakur) and myself was really crucial.”

“We were aiming for 320 or 330 (runs) but I think overall we had a pretty good day. As for bowling, we bowled really well in the second inning. Everyone bowled really well.”

“(We take it) session by session. We don't want to look too far ahead, but we saw that funny things happened in this game."
