Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa has been ruled out of the rest of the IPL with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) because of a recurrence of a shoulder injury
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) leg-spinner Adam Zampa has been ruled out of the 2025 IPL because of injury. The team has signed young batsman Smaran Ravichandran from Karnataka as his replacement.
Zampa featured as a impact sub in SRH's initial two tournament games, making 1 for 48 and 1 for 46 in two high-scoring games—including the 528-run game between SRH and Rajasthan Royals. He did experience shoulder pain in his bowling arm, though, and was absent for the subsequent four games before returning to Australia for more medical tests.
Smaran Ravichandran has appeared in seven first-class, ten List A, and six T20 games, amassing more than 1,100 runs. The left-handed batter, who represents Karnataka in domestic cricket, is signing with SRH for 3 million Indian rupees," the IPL said in a statement.
Ravichandran was left unsold in the IPL 2025 mega-auction, but performances soon after would have left all franchises wishing that they had bid for him. He made a match-winning hundred in the final of the Vijay Hazare Trophy for Karnataka and subsequent hundreds in the Ranji Trophy. These came after his 302-run season in the Maharaja Trophy, average 43.14 and strike rate 145.19, for the Gulbarga Mystics.
Zampa won't play again until Australia's subsequent T20I series against West Indies in the Caribbean, which starts later in July. He is one of the foundation stones in Australia's buildup for next year's T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka. The squad will play 19 bilateral T20I matches from July until February in preparation for the tournament.
