India A wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan could face disciplinary action following a heated verbal confrontation with umpire Shawn Craig during the final day of the unofficial Test match against Australia A in Mackay. The incident unfolded after ball tampering allegations led to the replacement of the ball early on Day 4.
The controversy began just before the start of play on Sunday, when the on-field umpires, Shawn Craig and Ben Treloar, decided to replace the ball, citing unusual scratch marks. India A players, including Kishan, expressed their dissatisfaction with the decision, questioning the need to change the ball.
Kishan, in particular, was vocal in his disagreement, criticizing the umpires for not making the change earlier. In response to the umpire's decision to continue with the replacement ball, Kishan reportedly said, "So we are going to play with this ball… that's a very stupid decision."
Umpire Shawn Craig warned Kishan for dissent, stating, "Excuse me, you'll be on report for dissent. That's inappropriate behaviour." Kishan, visibly displeased, sarcastically waved at the umpire while walking back to his position behind the stumps, saying, "Thank you, thank you."
