Once upon a time Zimbabwe used to be considered as strong contenders for Bangladesh. But now time has changed. The Tigers are way better than their Zimbabwean counterparts. While Bangladesh are at the 7th position in ICC ODI Team Rankings, Zimbabwe are ranked 10th with mere 46 points.

While Bangladesh have won bilateral series against the likes of giant teams Pakistan, India and South Africa of late, the Zimbabweans have recently suffered a crushing 2-3 series defeat against Afghanistan, who still are one of the ICC Associate Nations. So as far as the popular opinion is concerned, the upcoming series between Bangladesh and Zimbabwe is believed to be an one-sided one, in favor of the Tigers.

However, Zimbabwe captain Elton Chigumbura thinks otherwise. Though he admits the supremacy of Bangladesh over them, he thinks this series is going to be an exciting one, with both the teams eyeing for nothing but victory. During a press briefing at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in Dhaka, the Zimbabwe captain said, "Bangladesh is a very strong opponent at home. But we will also looking to claim victory."

The Zimbabweans have defeated a strong BCB XI at Fatullah on Thursday, which Chigumbura believes will boost confidence among his team members to repeat something like this in the main series as well.

"The victory in the warm-up match will provide us inspiration ahead of the forthcoming series. But to emerge victorious against Bangladesh national side, we will have to play much better than yesterday (Thursday).

Zimbabwe were whitewashed by Bangladesh in the ODI series 0-5 following a 0-3 Test series defeat in November last year. But the Zimbabwe captain hopes noting like that will happen this time around. "We have got a whole different squad for this tour. We have got some batsmen who can handle the spinners effectively. We are looking to start the series on a winning note. Hopefully the series will be a competitive one," said Chigumbura.
