The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has announced the 17-member squad for three matches of the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25. Shreyas Iyer will lead the team in the tournament after leading the side to victory in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-25.

Mumbai have announced their 17-man squad for the first three rounds of the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024–25, leaving out two key players, Ajinkya Rahane and Prithvi Shaw.

Rahane, Mumbai's leading run-scorer with 469 runs in the recently concluded SMAT, is surprisingly absent. His performances, including 98 in the semi-final against Baroda, have made him a vital part of the team over the past few months. Rahane's absence is shocking, especially given his form. However, Rahane has requested a time off from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) for personal reasons, resulting in his absence from the squad.

Shaw's exclusion, on the other hand, is due to his recent form and discipline issues. Despite being part of Mumbai's victorious Syed Mushtaq Ali campaign, Shaw's contribution was far from impressive. With just 197 runs in 9 matches, including a disappointing final performance, Shaw's inconsistency was noticed by the selectors.

In the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024, the prestigious domestic 50-over competition, Mumbai will be led by Shreyas Iyer, who recently led the side to their second Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) Trophy. The squad, announced ahead of the group matches in Ahmedabad, includes some of Mumbai's best international players like Shivam Dube and Shardul Thakur.

Suryakumar Yadav, captain of the Indian national T20I cricket team, has also been included in Mumbai's squad for the 2024-25 Vijay Hazare Trophy. The tournament will be a great opportunity for him to showcase his mettle in 50-over cricket, especially with the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 just around the corner.

Suryakumar Yadav will hold the key position for Mumbai in the middle order line-up along with Shreyas Iyer. The tournament will be a great opportunity for both the batsmen to get some game time and rhythm ahead of the international season and hence they will be keen to make an impression.

Although the squad is missing key players, it still has a mix of experienced and young players. Mumbai will count on fresh young talents like Ayush Mhatre and Angkrish Raghuvanshi, who have been included in the squad based on their domestic performances.

Mumbai's group matches will take place in Ahmedabad, where they will face teams like Karnataka, Saurashtra and Punjab in Group C. The team will open their season against Karnataka on December 21 at the Narendra Modi Stadium B Ground.
