In recent days, the controversy surrounding Pakistan's captaincy has attained its zenith. Babar Azam has been reappointed captain of Pakistan in white ball cricket (ODI and T20 formats). Following the previous ODI World Cup, Babar relinquished his captaincy.  

Zaka Ashraf was the head of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after Babar stood down as captain following the World Cup. What Zaka and Babar spoke about the captaincy has finally come out. Zaka discussed the topic with the media in Lahore.

Zaka told the media, "I offered to retain Babar Azam as the captain for red-ball cricket, but we wanted to appoint a new captain white-ball cricket. He responded by stating that if he were to be replaced as captain in one format, he would rather step down from captaincy in all formats. Consequently, I suggested that he should focus on playing as a team member for Pakistan, as it was clear that he was finding it challenging to cope with the pressure of captaincy,"

Finally, after the World Cup, Babar gave up the leadership of all three formats. Shan Masood was appointed as the new Test captain. Shaheen Shah Afridi was given the captaincy in T20. However, Shaheen's captaincy lasted only one series. Shaheen lost the captaincy after making Babar the captain again in ODI and T20. There are many criticisms in this regard. Zaka did not like the matter.

Zaka further said, “It is unfair on him that he had just one series to prove himself and the board should have shown faith in him. I would not have removed him. When you can give Babar so much time as captain why not Shaheen.”
