South Africa captain, Aiden Markram, expressed heartfelt pride and appreciation after South Africa’s first-ever Test series victory in the subcontinent after a decade, achieved by a commanding 2-0 sweep over Bangladesh. This historic success has not only underscored South Africa's growth as a Test side but also boosted their standing in the World Test Championship.

Reflecting on the significance of the win, Markram said, “It's been very special. For us as a group of players, we've never won a game or a series in the subcontinent. So that makes it very special.” He added that the team’s position in the World Test Championship race is motivating them further. "Obviously, to be still in the mix in terms of the love for the World Test Championship is a great thing as well. So you want to keep your name in the hat," Markram shared.

"You want to keep plugging away and see where you lay in for test match's time,” Markram continued, emphasizing that South Africa's Test team is committed to taking each game and each day step-by-step to maintain progress. “All you can really do is look after each day of each test match at a time and see where it gets you.”

Markram acknowledged that while the tour was challenging, the victory marked an important milestone for the team. “It’s been a tough journey at times. And to slowly be progressing is a really good thing for us," he noted. Addressing South Africa's overall cricket journey, he praised the team’s efforts in both the Test and T20 formats, reflecting on their 2024 T20 World Cup performance as a catalyst for their growing ambitions. “To make a final at a T20 World Cup, it’s big for us as a T20 team,” he said, expressing optimism about the team’s capacity to achieve even more.

The captain also highlighted the depth of South Africa's talent and resilience. "If we can keep putting in good performances like that, we don’t really know what the ceiling is because we haven’t managed to lift the trophy as per se. But we do believe that we have the players in the country to be able to do so," he added.

In the second Test in Chattogram, South Africa dominated with a staggering innings and 273-run victory over Bangladesh. Tony de Zorzi's masterful 177 runs and Kagiso Rabada's outstanding 14 wickets earned them the titles of Player of the Match and Player of the Series, respectively. The victory symbolizes South Africa’s determination to succeed against all odds.
