Namibia is one of the countries who made it for the first time in the grand stages of ICC T20 World Cup 2021. However, their aim will not just be to participate, but to advance into the Super 12, or even greater. Let us have a look at the players who could have an impact to Namibia’s qualification.
Gerhard Erasmus
Gerhard Erasmus is an allrounder who captains Namibia. The 26 years old is the batting spine for his nation, and he has showed his quality in the ICC T20 Qualifier 2019. Erasmus was the most successful batter for his team, and the second highest run scorer in the entire tournament. Erasmus scored 268 runs in 9 matches with a healthy strike rate of 137.43 and an impressive average of 38.28.
Namibia will be looking towards Erasmus to score the bulk of the runs, and it is crucial for the captain to lead from the front, in order to keep Namibia in the running for Super 12.
David Wiese
David Wiese started out his career for South Africa. However, the 36 years old experienced all rounder will be representing Namibia in the upcoming T20 world cup.
Namibia as a unit lacks experience in the major tournaments overall. Wiese will be the man to fill up that void. His handiness with the ball in hand and his hard hitting ability lower down the order will be a plus point for Namibia going into the tournament. Namibia will be hoping that Wiese’s experience in the ICC major tournaments comes in clutch, and helps them to push forward.
Namibia will be playing their first match against Sri Lanka on the 18th of October. Many people are already writing Namibia off, since they will be fighting against Sri Lanka, Ireland and Netherlands. However, it is up to the players to rise and fight for a place in the Super 12.
