The 34-year-old has been one of the better performed players in domestic one-day cricket in recent years and his strong form for the Melbourne Renegades in the KFC BBL convinced selectors to give him another go at the top level.
Australia's selector Trevor Hohns said in the press conference: "He's in very good form as his figures demonstrate, he's playing very well. He's one of the leading run-scorers in the KFC BBL, he's experienced, he's a very smart cricketer and he's a good fielder. He ticks all the boxes for what we need at this stage."
As everyone, White himself is shocked too after getting the news that he has been included in the squad: "I was very surprised this morning when Trevor Hohns rang me," White said. "Obviously I'm really looking forward to the opportunity and getting in amongst it. In the back of my mind I probably never gave up all hope. It's something I've always wanted to do, is get back and have another go at it. I'm grateful for the opportunity and it's up to me to make the most of it."
