Using the example of the great opening tandem of Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar, former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa has lavished Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal with accolades.

Among one-day international openers, Ganguly and Tendulkar stand head and shoulders above the rest. Together, they have batted 136 innings at an average of 49.32 runs per pair, resulting in 6609 runs scored, 21 centuries shared, and 23 half-centuries.

In light of Gill and Jaiswal's batting achievements, Robin Uthappa praised the young players, drawing comparisons to the great batting partnership of Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar.

Their batting styles suit each other, and the former India batter admitted that he loves watching them play together on Sony Sports Network.

“I do see them, when I look at them they remind me of Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar going out together, where their games kind of complimented each other. Their strategies complimented each other, that’s what I see when I see these two go out to bat together,” said Uthappa.

Uthappa went on to say that Jaiswal should use every opportunity to cement his spot in the One-Day Internationals. The left-handed batsman has appeared in 22 games but has not made an ODI appearance.

“I honestly feel when he (Jaiswal) gets that opportunity in ODI cricket, he will seal that spot so quickly because after Test cricket and T20I cricket, ODI cricket is going to be so much easier for him. Because he will feel like I have all the time in the world to be able to score runs,” Uthappa stated.

India and Sri Lanka will play a three-match one-day international series after India won the Twenty20 International series 3-0. The famous R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo is set to host the inaugural one-day international.
