Indian captain Rohit Sharma will be back in the cricketing scene for the upcoming ODI series against Sri Lanka, with the ODI opener just a few hours away from getting underway.

The Indian captain hammered a 84-ball 131, which is also one of the fastest centuries in World Cup history. He drew plaudits for his spectacular knock as he also went past Ricky Ponting's tally of 30 centuries in ODIs.

This impressive knock was Rohit's 31st ODI century and in the process, he took the third spot for scoring the most centuries in the format, with Virat Kohli (50) and Sachin Tendulkar (49) placed first and second on the list. It is also worth noting that Rohit Sharma went past Sachin Tendulkar for most ODI World Cup hundreds

It remains to be seen whether or not Rohit Sharma will end his ODI century drought in the upcoming ODI series. For sure, it will be a challenging task because he hasn't tasted a great deal of success in Colombo. He did score one century but averages around 27 at this venue. 

The senior cricketer has all the tools and ingredients to end the century drought, given his wealth of experience in the format. It remains to be seen how he will go about his work this time.
