India’s standout performer in Test cricket this year, Yashasvi Jaiswal, had a difficult start to the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 as he was dismissed for a duck on Day 1 of the series opener. The young left-handed opener fell victim to Australian pace ace Mitchell Starc after facing just eight deliveries, leaving India in early trouble.

The dismissal occurred in the third over of India’s first innings, with Starc delivering a well-directed fuller-length outswinger that lured Jaiswal into a drive. However, the ball stayed low, and Jaiswal misjudged the shot, managing only an outside edge that was comfortably taken by debutant Nathan McSweeney at gully. India's opening wicket fell with just five runs on the board, putting pressure on the touring side.

This disappointing start is part of a recurring struggle for Jaiswal against left-arm pacers in Test cricket. As per ESPNcricinfo, this marks the fourth time Jaiswal has been dismissed by a left-arm seamer in just five innings, with his average dropping to 8.25 against such bowlers. His shot selection against Starc’s outswinger highlighted this ongoing challenge.
