Mohammad Ashraful is unarguably one of the best cricketers Bangladesh has ever produced. Many people also term him as the first cricketing superstar of the country. It's a shame that he is now out of international cricket after being banned by the BCB because of his involvement in spot-fixing, but the good news is that he is once again coming back to competitive cricket soon, and might get another run for the national side as well. After making his international debut in a ODI match against Zimbabwe in April 2001, he also made his Test debut in September of the same year, and went on to become youngest ever centurion in the history of cricket, 17 years and 61 days. However, his popularity in Bangladesh first reached at its peak after making a magical century and two half centuries in the NatWest One Day tri-series in England, involving the hosts and Australia as other two teams. In next few years, he successfully maintained his status as the most famous sports personality of the country. There might have been the arrival of the likes of Shakib Al Hasan, Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim, Ashraful remained one of the most influential faces in the Tigers dressing room. But his downfall started once he was ruled out of the Test team in 2010, first time in seven years, For the next three years, he is shuttled in and out of the Bangladesh team, once even at the whim of the board president. And the biggest shock of his life came to light in 2013 when it was revealed that he had got involved in fixing during the second season of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) earlier that year. The BCB decided to suspend Ashraful from all forms of cricket after he confessed to the ICC's Anti-Corruption and Security Unit that he was involved in spot-fixing during the franchise based T20 cricket tournament. He was first banned for eight years by the tribunal conducting an investigation into the corruption charges brought against him by the BCB. Later the eight-year ban was reduced to a five-year penalty, with two years suspended, by the BCB's disciplinary panel chairman. The five-year ban was dated from August 13, 2013. The last two years were suspended subject to his participation in a BCB or ICC anti-corruption education and training programme. "Upon production of a certificate of good conduct from ICC", a BCB release had said, he would be eligible to return to cricket "on or about August 13, 2016". As a result, now the proverbial batsman will be freed from his three years suspension for his fixing scam on August 13, 2016. He is likely to make his return in competitive cricket through the Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL), scheduled to start from August 20. Before being suspended from cricket in 2013, Ashraful payed 177 ODIs, 61 Tests and 23 T20Is for Bangladesh. During the first phase of his international career between 2001 and 2013, he not only made 9 centuries and 30 fifties across formats, but also led his team to some remarkable victories. Now let's take a look 5 finest innings of Ashraful's career. 5. 94 vs England in 2005 (ODI) After making a miracle hundred in the previous match of the NatWest One Day tri-series against Australia in Cardiff, leading Bangladesh to their first victory against the legendary side, the little master from Bangladesh hammered another outstanding knock of 94 off 52 balls against England, after surviving a first-ball scare against debutant Chris Tremlett, whose delivery bounced on the bails but didn't dislodge them. Ashraful's knock featured 11 fours and 3 sixes. But apart from Ashraful's magnificent knock, only Javed Omar was the man to contribute something to the team, making a 59. But that wasn't enough for the Tigers, as their innings came to an end on just 223, and thus they had to suffer a big defeat of 168 runs while chasing the 392-run target set by the English Lions.
