Harshit Rana, making his Test debut for India, wasted no time announcing himself on the international stage. The 22-year-old fast bowler claimed his first-ever Test wicket on Friday, November 22, when he knocked over Australian batter Travis Head in the opening Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at Optus Stadium, Perth.

The right-arm pacer, hailing from Delhi, bowled an excellent delivery in the 12th over of Australia’s first innings. Rana’s full-length ball, pitched just outside off stump, had Head in two minds as he tried to defend it from the back foot. However, the ball went past Head’s outside edge before crashing into the top of the off-stump, sending the bails flying and leaving the Australian batter stunned.

Travis Head, who had been one of Australia’s key players, had no answer to Rana’s perfect delivery. The young pacer’s sharp inward seam movement left Head completely bamboozled as India began to turn the tables in the first innings.

Rana's wicket was a crucial moment in the match, with Australia struggling at 31/4 after his dismissal of Head. Prior to Rana's success, India’s stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah had already made significant inroads into Australia’s top order. Bumrah dismissed Nathan McSweeney for just 10, then followed up with the big scalps of Usman Khawaja (8) and former captain Steve Smith (0) in consecutive deliveries.
