During the 2024 Major League Cricket (MLC) match between the Los Angeles Knight Riders (LAKR) and Washington Freedom (WSF), West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell's ball struck Australian batter Travis Head's bat so hard that it split in two parts. The match between them took place on Sunday, July 14, at Church Street Park in Morrisville, giving a funny twist to the exciting game.
In the second over of the Washington Freedom's innings, Russell bowled a pacy short-pitched delivery that shattered Head's bat as he attempted a pull shot. The southpaw was left stunned as the bat flew out of his hands and the ball rolled to the mid-on region.

Despite this unexpected incident, the left-hander quickly regained his form and continued his innings. Nevertheless, he went on to score a brilliant 54 off 32 balls, including 2 fours and 6 sixes, leading the Washington Freedom to an impressive eight-wicket victory.
Reflecting on the game, Head shared his thoughts on the pitch and his performance: "Was [pitch] on the slower side, took more spin than previous games. Nice to get a few away and nice to get a win. Nice to play the full fixture. Nice to get some luck and get away, it was nice to get a few away off the middle. [On the crowd] Good to feed off it, good to maximise when me and Smithy were going. Looking forward to the rest of the tournament."
