Flamboyant Indian batsman Virat Kohli is likely to be rested for the third and final ODI game against the West Indies. It is understood that the former India captain did not travel with the team to the series final in Trinidad and could likely warm the bench for the game.
Former Team India captain Virat Kohli is unlikely to be available for the 3rd ODI against WI in Trinidad after going missing on the team bus. Kohli reportedly did not travel with the Indian team to Trinidad, where the 3rd IND vs WI ODI will be played on August 1st.
There is reportedly no official confirmation as to whether Kohli will be included in the XI considering he has not traveled with the team. It is worth noting that the think tank decided to drop senior cricketers Kohli and captain Rohit Sharma in the second ODI after winning comfortably in the first ODI.
After India's stunning performance in Barbados, it was expected that both of the Indian team's regulars would return for the series decider.
However, given Virat Kohli's absence from the Trinidad squad, his position for tomorrow's game cannot be determined. If Virat Kohli stays on the bench, Sanju Samson and Suryakumar Yadav are likely to get another chance to show what they can do.
Both Samson and Suryakumar Yadav are struggling to make a strong impression on the Indian ODI side. While Suryakumar Yadav has a good opportunity to express himself that he has completely wasted so far, Sanju Samson will most likely get a few more opportunities to make something of it before it's too late for him.
Notably, the Windies won their first ODI match against the Men in Blue since 2019 after nine straight losses. Notably, Team India only completed 181 runs at the second ODI in Bridgetown, Barbados. While Ishan Kishan hit 55 runs, Shubman Gill managed to scored 34 balls from 49 while the rest of the batting unit didn't contribute with decisive shots.
During the chase, captain Shai Hope played a 63-of-80 unbeaten stroke that included two fours and as many sixes to help his side get back level with India in the three-game streak. Samson failed to prevail in the 2nd ODI where he was given a chance.
Team India could likely back Samson for the third and final ODI game and bring back players like skipper Rohit Sharma. The two sides will face off at Trinidad's Brian Lara Stadium on Tuesday, August 1st. Team India will look to stage a resounding comeback in the final before turning their attention to the five T20Is.
