During the match against the United Arab Emirates in the Asia Cup 2016, the then-skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni show-cased his brilliance with the gloves once again.

Earlier in the match, batting first, United Arab Emirates struggled to face the Indian bowling and lost their wickets at regular interval. UAE batsman Shaiman Anwar was the highest run scorer for his team, scoring 43 runs. While Bhuvneshwar Kumar bagged two wickets, Bumrah, Pandya, Harbhajan, Negi, and Yuvraj took 1 wicket each. The struggled UAE managed to post a total of just 81 runs for 9 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. However, the Indian openers gave a solid start while chasing the low score. After losing Rohit Sharma, Yuvraj Singh smashed 25 runs off just 14 deliveries as India won the game by 9 wickets. The Indian opener Rohit Sharma, who scored 39 off just 28 deliveries, adjudged the man of the match award. Rohit Sharma, who won the man of the match award, talked about his performance after the match. He said,"Wickets here have been challenging. Glad that we can put up a performance like that. You have to see off the conditions and get a hang of the conditions before playing your shots.: "On a wicket like this, you need to give yourself some time and I did exactly that tonight. Important to select your shots - when there's extra bounce, you play a little bit squarer because it's not easy to play on the up. That's what our batsmen have been doing and we have been discussing that as well," he added. During the 18th over of first innings, the UAE batsman played the shot towards long-on but the non-striker ran carelessly between the wickets to which MSD reacted in his own style.
