Mohsin Naqvi, chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), has revealed that Usman Khan is one of the players being considered for selection for the forthcoming T20 International series against New Zealand. Following the cricketer's five-year punishment for breaching his commitments imposed by the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB), discussions with the PCB ensued.
The forthcoming series against the Kiwis is scheduled to commence on April 18 at Rawalpindi, and Naqvi hinted that Usman would make an appearance in it.
“(Usman) Khan is eligible for Pakistan and he will play (for the national side),” as reported by Geo News, Naqvi made the statement while addressing the media.
Curiously, Usman was one of 29 athletes that trained with the Pakistani army at the camp. Meanwhile, in a statement on Usman, the UAE board claimed that the 28-year-old had "misrepresented his intention to the board." They went on to say that the batter took advantage of the ECB's development possibilities but then, while still under contract, sought out opportunities elsewhere.
“Usman was found to have misrepresented to ECB about his decision to play for the UAE team and has used the opportunities and development provided by the ECB to him to seek out other prospects and it was evident that he no longer wanted to play for ECB nor complete the eligibility criteria which he was under an obligation to do,” ECB said in a statement.
