Manchester Originals have hired Pakistani leg spinner Usama Mir for their upcoming third edition of the Hundred.
Pakistani all-rounder Usama Mir has joined the Manchester Originals as a substitute for the upcoming 2023 edition of The Hundred.
Mir replaces Sri Lankan all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga who is set to play in the upcoming edition of Lanka Premier League 2023.
Taking to Twitter, the 27-year-old expressed his heartfelt thanks for being selected for The Hundred. He shared his enthusiasm and appreciation for the opportunity to show off his skills on such a large stage.
"One of my goals for 2023 was to be selected for @thehundred and I am so thankful and grateful that I was selected. I'm really looking forward to the start," he said.
Usama recently played for Worcestershire at Vitality Blast 2023, taking 19 wickets with an average of 16. He also netted 132 runs in their respective games.
Usama, who was looking forward to playing cricket in England, was called up to the Pakistan team for ODIs earlier this year. That year he made his one-day international debut against New Zealand in Karachi. He replaced the injured Shadab Khan in the three-game series.
Usama has played six one-day internationals (ODIs) to date, all against New Zealand. He took ten wickets and bowled at a saving rate of 5.29. Because of his performances at ODIs, his name is being considered for the ICC World Championships in India, scheduled for October and November this year.
