Umar Gul confirms talks with BCB amid speculation over Bangladesh’s next pace bowling coach
Andre Adams, who took over the role of Bangladesh’s fast-bowling coach in mid-2023, has reportedly failed to fully convince the BCB management with his impact so far. Although he still has over a year left on his contract, the board is seemingly exploring alternatives, possibly to shake up the pace unit ahead of crucial series later this year.

Despite Andre Adams being under contract as Bangladesh’s pace bowling coach until 2026, recent whispers in the cricketing circles suggest the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is considering a change. Among the possible replacements, former Pakistani speedster Umar Gul has emerged as a strong contender—and he’s confirmed that discussions are underway.
In an exclusive with cricket portal Cricbuzz, Gul acknowledged ongoing communication with BCB but noted that nothing has been finalized yet. “"We are in talks, but nothing is confirmed yet. The confirmation depends on mutual understanding and terms and conditions, and that is dependent on the board,” he told Cricbuzz.

Gul isn’t the only name doing the rounds. Other candidates reportedly being considered include former Australian pacer Shaun Tait, and Bangladesh’s previous fast-bowling coaches Allan Donald and Ottis Gibson—both of whom had solid stints with the Tigers.
A stalwart of Pakistan’s pace attack during the 2000s, Umar Gul represented his country in 47 Tests, 130 ODIs, and 60 T20Is between 2003 and 2016. Known for his lethal yorkers and T20 prowess, Gul transitioned into coaching after retiring from international cricket in 2020.
He began his coaching journey with Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), before serving as the fast-bowling coach of the Afghanistan national team in 2022. Most notably, he was appointed as Pakistan’s pace coach for their series against Afghanistan in March 2023.
With a blend of recent coaching experience and international pedigree, Gul could be an exciting addition to the Bangladesh backroom staff—especially with young pacers emerging in the Tigers’ ranks.
In related developments, BCB recently strengthened its coaching panel by appointing James Pamment—the former Mumbai Indians fielding coach in the IPL—as Bangladesh’s new fielding coach.
