Australia beat England by 28 runs on Thursday (September 12) at The Rose Bowl, Southampton. Travis Head's blistering 59 off just 23 deliveries, with Matthew Short's excellent 41 off 26 balls propelled Australia to 179. In reply, England fell short of 28 runs, hence Australia took 1-0 lead.

Travis Head bludgeoned 59 off only 23 balls to take the game away from England inside the powerplay.

Being inserted to bat first, Australia started rollicking, especially Travis Head. Who hammered Sam Curran for 30 off a single over to tear him apart. It was a carnage from Head and Short duo in the opening. Head reached to his fifty off just 19 balls and scored a blistering 59 off 23 balls. While Short scored a quick-fire 41 off just 26 deliveries.

Wicket-keeper batter Josh Inglis too scored some runs under his belt as he got 37 off 27 before falling to Sam Curran. But after the departure of these three, Australia had a serious collapse and they soon crumbled to 132/5, as they ended their innings on 179/10.

In reply, England had a worst way to start to their innings. Josh Hazlewood removed Will Jacks earlier of the innings, debutant Jordan Cox too couldn’t do anything as he could manage only 17 off 12 balls before falling to Xavier Bartlett. Captain Phil Salt too departed as England lost three inside the powerplay. But Liam Livingstone made a huge impact at the middle, scoring 37 off 27 balls to uplift England.

However, Josh Hazlewood came back to remove Livingstone and England were crashing down. Sam Curran and Jamie Overton though scored some but couldn’t help England chase down the total as Australia were too clinical with the ball in hand.
