The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the ODI team of year 2024. Charith Asalanka has been named as the captain of the team with lot of rising stars have made it through the XI.
Charith Asalanka Saim Ayub : The Pakistan rising star had a breakout year, piling up 515 runs at a jaw dropping average of 64.37 and a staggering strike rate of 105.53, including three centuries and a half-century. Three of his last five innings have produced centuries, including two in South Africa in December 2024.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz : The Afghanistan top order batter continues to shine at the international level, across the 11 ODI's he played he managed to add 531 runs including three centuries and 2 half-centuries.
Pathum Nissanka : Sri Lanka's Pathum Nissanka has also got a place as he piled up around 694 runs across the 12 matches he's played this year and smashed three centuries and two half-centuries.
Kusal Mendis (Wicketkeeper) : Sri Lanka's batter Kusal Mendis has been named in the XI as the wicketkeeper. He added 742 runs at an average of 53, including a solitary century and 6 half-centuries this year.
Charith Asalanka (Captain) : Charith Asalanka will lead the XI. He managed to get 605 runs inside 16 ODI's he has featured this year, including a solitary hundred and four half-centuries.
Sherfane Rutherford : Rutherford played the middle-order role to perfection this year, adding 425 runs inside just 9 matches including a century and four half-centuries.
Azmatullah Omarzai : The Afghanistan all-rounder has been terrific throughout the year, scoring 417 runs including a hundred and three half-centuries and also picked up 17 wickets including the career-best 4/18.
Wanindu Hasaranga : Hasaranga’s 7/19 against Zimbabwe in January is the fifth-best bowling figures in an innings in ODI history. He has picked up 26 wickets inside 10 matches he has played this year.
Shaheen Shah Afridi : He picked up 15 wickets inside 6 ODI's he has featured this year.
Haris Rauf : Pakistan's speedster was absolutely unstoppable against the Aussies and was named as the Player of the Series. He managed to get 13 wickets across the 8 ODI's he has played this year.
AM Ghazanfar : The 18-year-old AM Ghazanfar had an incredible 2024, after making his ODI debut in March against Ireland. He grabbed 21 wickets at an average of just 13.57 including the career-best bowling figures of 6/26.
