Controversies

Shehzad was given a one-game ban in 2011 for showing dissent at the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, a month before he was fined on disciplinary grounds.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) issued an official reprimand to Shehzad following his frequent disputes with Sri Lankan batsman Tillakaratne Dilshan over Dilshan's past and present religions.

During a Pakistan Super League group match against Peshawar Zalmi, Shehzad had an altercation and physical conflict with bowler Wahab Riaz. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) fined both players and issued an official warning.

Following Pakistan's exit from the 2016 World Twenty20 after losing three games to New Zealand, India and Australia, Shehzad's poor performance led to a PCB committee proposing a ban for him and player Umar Akmal.

Shehzad and Shahid Afridi were unconventionally intimate. In an interview in 2016, Shehzad shared that he was closer to Afridi than his own wife and that he misses his gentle touch. There was also news of both spending more than extra time in the dressing room, embarrassing the entire team. On one occasion, Shehzad was seen undressed in the dressing room with Afridi for more than 15 minutes and the pictures went viral. Due to Shehzad's poor performance, the Pakistan Cricket Board imposed a ban on him which also resulted in the ongoing romance between the two being ended.
