Aggression is an essential spice in fast bowling, but Tanzim Hasan Sakib’s fiery demeanor often crosses limits. The Sylhet Strikers pacer, known for his unyielding attitude since leading Bangladesh to the U19 World Cup title in 2020, found himself in hot water during a BPL match. This time, he was fined for an on-field altercation with Khulna Tigers' all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz.

The incident occurred during the 17th match of BPL 2025, where Sylhet Strikers set a challenging target of 183 runs for Khulna Tigers. Nawaz, who had smashed a six and two boundaries in Sakib’s previous over, mistimed a shot and was caught by Zakir Hasan.

Following the wicket, Sakib’s celebrations took an aggressive turn. He not only signaled Nawaz back to the pavilion but also shouldered him during their exchange. A heated verbal altercation ensued before teammates and umpires intervened.

While fans applauded Sakib’s passion, match officials viewed it differently. The 22-year-old pacer was fined 50% of his match fee and handed three demerit points for breaching the code of conduct.

The demerit points are a bigger concern for Sakib. According to BPL rules, four demerit points within 24 months result in a two-match ban. With three points already, Sakib is now just one step away from suspension, making it imperative for him to remain cautious in the upcoming matches.

Interestingly, Nawaz escaped any penalty despite his role in the altercation. Match officials opted not to reprimand the Khulna Tigers player, drawing mixed reactions from fans and experts alike.
