India beat Sri Lanka in super over to whitewash the hosts in three-match T20I series on Tuesday (30th July). India already sealed the series and made 4 changes to the XI, at one point they were reduced to 30/4 but Gill and Parag helped get out of the trouble and post a respectable total. In reply, a collective bowling performance from the bowlers helped them defend the total and tie the game. In the super over, India were clinical to thrash Sri Lanka.
India whitewashed Sri Lanka.
Being asked to bat first, Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal fell to Maheesh Theekshana after hitting a couple of boundaries. Captain Suryakumar Yadav perished for 8. Sanju Samson once again had duck, Rinku Singh also went back to the dugout after scoring just 1. The visitors were reduced to 30/4 in the powerplay.
Shivam Dube couldn’t make major contribution and then Shubman Gill and Riyan Parag stood tall for India and stitched a fifty run stand together. Just when they went for upping the ante, both of them were dismissed by Wanindu Hasaranga in the same over. At the tad backend of the innings, Washington Sundar played a little cameo of 25 off 18 deliveries to take his side close to 140, 137 on the board.
In reply, both the Sri Lankan openers started slowly but managed to keep going and stitch a stand as they added 58 runs on the opening pair. Ravi Bishnoi once again showed his class by removing both the openers. But Kusal Perera hold his nerve and steered the ship and they were on the verge of winning the match. At one point they were on 110-2 after 15.2 overs but they couldn’t capitalise on that and faltered in the next couple of overs to reduce to 132-8.
Sri Lanka needed 6 off the last over but they managed to get just 5 and drew the match.
In the super over, Sri Lanka were all out for just 2 runs and it was very easy task for India to chase down the total. With this victory, India have whitewashed Sri Lanka in the T20I series.
