Soumya on the way to his maiden ODI fifty.[/caption] Like the other day, Bangladeshi openers were cheaply dismissed today as well without contributing much to the scoreboard and left their side in trouble. But it was just to set the tone for young Soumya Sarkar as he made no delay after coming to the crease and instantly started counter attacking along with Mahmudullah to leave New Zealand clueless on the field. Soumya did the much praising job of innings rebuilding with Mahmudullah in the 3rd wicket partnership to give Bangladesh a solid start regardless the failure of the openers. Soumya's 90-run partnership with Mahmudullah was the highest for the Bangladesh innings. On his way to maiden ODI fifty, Soumya struck 7 boundaries with a strike rate 87.93 and eventually fell victim to Daniel Vettori's spin on 51 to be caught by Corey Anderson. Although scoring the maiden ODI fifty was a great success for Soumya, the way he was later dismissed would certainly bear many criticism towards him as well.
