The final match of Australia’s three-match ODI series against the West Indies will be played on Tuesday (February 6). Matthew Short has been ruled out of the match. Instead, Queensland batter Ben Mcdermott got a place in the team.
Matthew Short has been ruled out of the third match against the West Indies in Canberra on Tuesday with a hamstring injury. Short suffered the injury in the series-winning match at the SCG on Sunday. Although he scored 41 runs with the bat, he was injured while batting and could not field anymore. He was also knocked out of the third match with that injury.
On the other hand, Australia also released Travis Head. As a result, there is no extra batter in the team. McDermott opened his forehead at this opportunity. McDermott scored an unbeaten 146 for Queensland in the Sheffield Shield match against Tasmania on Saturday. He will join the Australian team in Canberra on Monday in good form.
McDermott has not played an ODI for Australia since the tour of Pakistan in March-April 2022. He scored his first and only ODI century on that tour. He played for Australia in the recent Twenty20 series in India after the World Cup and scored 54 off 36 balls in the last Twenty20 match of the series in Bangalore.
Notably, Australia will be without Josh Hazlewood in Canberra as he will be in Sydney before joining the T20 squad in Hobart ahead of the first T20 against the West Indies on Friday. Australia also rested Xavier Bartlett, who bowled brilliantly on debut. Australia won the three-match series by 2-0 with one match in hand.
