A very dominant India have cancelled out a 0-1 disadvantage to come back from behind and clinch the three-match ODI series against Australia on Sunday (January 19). They won the match by seven wickets with 15 balls to spare at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Sharma Kohli guide India

Batting first after winning the toss, Australia posted a challenging total of 286 for nine in their stipulated 50 overs, riding on a superb hundred from Steven Smith. After disappointing outcomes from the openers David Warner and Aaron Finch, Smith stitched a 127-run stand with Marnus Labuschagne to not only drag his side from a possible disaster, but also gave the ray of hope to post a 300-plus total on board. Labuschagne made 54 off 64 balls with five fours. But once he departed in the 32nd over, Australia innings saw a downhill, and even a 131 off 132 balls from Smith could not take Australia over 300. Smith's knock included 14 fours and a sixer. Only the wicketkeeper-batsman Alex Carey (35 off 36 balls) could provide Smith some assistance towards the end. Eventually, Australia's innings finished at a below-par total. Mohammad Shami, though a little expensive as he spent 63 runs, was the highest wicket-taker for his side; he took four. Ravindra Jadeja took two, while Navdeep Saini and Kuldeep Yadav grabbed one wicket each. Chasing a target of 287 runs, India never looked in trouble. LK Rahul scored only 19, true, but post his departure India saw a 137-run partnership between Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Sharma scored 119 off 128 balls with the help of 8 fours and 6 sixes, before being dismissed by Adam Zampa on 206 in the 37th over. Virat Kohli got out in the 46th over with his side only 13 runs away from victory. He fell short of a century, as he managed 89 off 91 balls (8 fours). Shreyas Iyer remained unbeaten till the end on 44 to take his side sail to victory. For the visitors, Zampa, Josh Hazlewood and Ashton Agar bagged one wicket each. Rohit Sharma was adjudged the Man of the Match, while the Man of the Series award went to the India skipper Virat Kohli. Scores: India 289 for 3 (Sharma 119, Kohli 89) beat Australia 286 for 9 (Smith 131, Labuschagne 54, Shami 4-63, Jadeja 2-44, Bumrah 0-38) by 7 wickets.
