Bangladesh won the three-match ODI series against Ireland yesterday by 2-0. They grabbed a 4-run win in the last match of the series. Najmul Hossain Shanto, who bowls rarely in the national team, also got a wicket with the ball.

Batting first in the match, Bangladesh put up a moderate total of 274 runs. Tamim Iqbal scored the only fifty of the innings. There was a chance to score more than 300 runs but it was not done due to the failure of the batters towards the end.

The Irish made a great start in reply. Their batting had been quite good in the middle as well. However, Bangladesh bowlers put on a fight at the perfect time and secured the win.

Debutant pacer Mrittunjoy Chowdhury was expensive on the day and that’s why Tamim opted for the part-time spinner Shanto towards the end of the Ireland innings. Shanto also repaid the faith and got the wicket at the very intense moment of the match with a breakthrough wicket. He took 1 wicket for 10 runs in 3 overs, picking up the important wicket of Harry Tector. At the end of the match, captain Tamim also praised Shanto's bowling. He said that Shanto, becoming an all-rounder will benefit the team.

At the post-match prize distribution ceremony, Tamim said, “Until the 40th over, I had no idea he'd bowl. I brought on Shanto because Miraz bowled so well. There was a bigger side, it wasn't easy to hit. He did fantastic. Him becoming an allrounder would be great.”

In the beginning, Tamim did not expect to win as Ireland were looking much good at 225/3, “If I tell you we had the believe we'd win, I'd be lying. But cricket is a funny game, wickets fall and scoreboard pressure is bad to have. When the Fizz got two wickets, we thought we had a chance.”
