The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reappointed Babar Azam as their white ball formats - ODI and T20I's captain after a short stint of Shaheen Shah Afridi's captaincy. However, Shaheen has greeted Babar on getting the captaincy back and stated it was "an honour" to lead Pakistan.
India, PCB sacked Babar Azam from all forms of captaincy and gave the armband to Shaheen for white ball formats, while Shan Masood got the responsibility to lead the side in Test Cricket. But after a short stint of Shaheen's captaincy career, PCB has removed him from the captaincy job and reappointed Babar.
After the devastating result in the ICC men's Cricket World Cup 2023,Shaheen captained the Pakistan T20I team only for a series against New Zealand where they were thrashed by the Kiwis in a scoreline of 1-4. But Shaheen pledged complete support to Babar as captain.
"I will always cherish the memories and the opportunity," the statement, attributed to Afridi, said. "As a team player, it is my duty to back our captain, Babar Azam. I have played under his captaincy and have nothing but respect for him. I will try to help him on and off the field. We are all one. Our aim is the same, to help Pakistan become the best team in the world." - Shaheen said.
Pakistan's next white ball assignment is New Zealand, starts from 18th April. Kiwis will tour Pakistan for a 5 match T20I series and it is expected that Babar will lead the Pakistan team from that series.
