On Friday (December 29), the Kathmandu District Court reached a verdict of rape against Sandeep Lamichhane, who had previously had the position of captain of Nepal.
The court, on the other hand, has reached the conclusion that the victim was not a kid at the time of the occurrence, contrary to what had been suggested before. The length of Lamichhane's punishment will be decided during the subsequent hearing on the subject. In the present moment, Lamichhane is free on bond.
Lamichhane had led PARSA Club XI to victory against Nepal Army Club in a Nepal Pro Club Championship match that took place in Birgunj on the day that he was found guilty of the crime.
In September of 2022, charges were initially lodged against Lamichhane; nevertheless, the leg-spinner has continued to represent Nepal while on bail until the trial. This is due to the fact that the Nepal Supreme Court reversed an order from a lower court that mandated his custody in January of this year.
A sentencing hearing is scheduled to take place at the beginning of the next month.
