Former India cricketer Yograj Singh has weighed in on the retirement talks surrounding Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma advising both veterans to delay any retirement plans until after the 2027 ODI World Cup. After India's stunning Champions Trophy 2025 win Rohit Sharma firmly dismissed rumors about his retirement from ODI cricket while Virat Kohli also chose to stay silent on his future in the format.

On Sunday, March 9 India defeated New Zealand by four wickets in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final securing their seventh ICC title. The win marked a significant achievement for both Kohli and Rohit with the duo claiming their second ICC Champions Trophy title and fourth ICC title overall.
Speaking to ANI Yograj Singh expressed his confidence in Rohit and Kohli's abilities and encouraged them to focus on the 2027 ODI World Cup. According to him retirement talks should come only after lifting the prestigious trophy.
"The best thing is that Rohit Sharma said he is not retiring. Well done, my son. Nobody can retire Rohit and Virat. They should think about retirement after winning the 2027 ODI World Cup. I had said this before India would win," Yograj stated.
He also lashed out at critics who had raised concerns over Rohit’s fitness, defending the Indian captain’s physical condition.
"Some people were raising questions about Rohit Sharma's fitness. I want to ask Madam (Congress leader Shama Mohamed) about her fitness. It does not suit them to comment on players," Yograj remarked.
Earlier Rohit Sharma had confirmed that he has no plans to retire from ODI cricket. However, he remains uncertain about the 2027 World Cup, preferring to take things step by step.
"Right now, I am taking things as they come. It wouldn’t be fair for me to think too far ahead. At this moment, my focus is on playing well and maintaining the right mindset. I don’t want to draw any lines and say whether I will or won’t play in the 2027 World Cup. There’s no point in making such statements right now. Realistically, I have always taken my career one step at a time," Rohit said, making it clear that he is focused on the present.
