Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram has reportedly turned down an offer to serve as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). The board was seeking an experienced individual to manage cricket-related matters effectively.

Cricket Pakistan reports that they approached Akram to either serve as the CEO or as an advisor to the chairman. The 58-year-old, however, declined the role due to familial commitments. Akram resides in Karachi and frequently travels to Australia, making it challenging for him to commit to the PCB role based in Lahore.

Following Akram’s refusal, the PCB reached out to former Pakistan coach Waqar Younis, who currently resides in Australia. Younis has reportedly shown interest in the position and has agreed to return to Lahore for further discussions. The PCB has not had a CEO position until now, but an amendment to the constitution could make it possible.

"The PCB believed there was a need for an experienced individual who understands the language of cricketers and is capable of making the right decisions, which is why Waqar was brought on board," a source told Cricbuzz.

"In addition, Waqar will also address any matters or assignments deemed appropriate by the PCB chairman that require his attention or expertise," the source added.

Men in Greens are set to face Bangladesh in a two-match Test series as part of the 2023-25 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle. The PCB wants to ensure strong leadership and strategic decisions to improve the national team's performance and management.
